Lower Than Atlantis

Lower Than Atlantis

Hertfordshire quartet Lower Than Atlantis are ready to take on all-comers. With a year under their belts that has seen the young band ascend from UK underground scene obscurity to mainstream radio and TV exposure, high profile tours and plastered across all manner of end of year lists in the national music press thanks to their critically lauded debut album ‘Far Q’ and rabble rousing live show, Lower Than Atlantis stand at the start of 2011 in great shape, hotly tipped as one the breakthrough names for the 12 months ahead.

To aid and abet their push onwards and upwards, the ambitious foursome come armed with second album ‘World Record’ (to be released April 4, 2011), a prolific assembly of colossal hooks and kinetically charged guitars loaded into larger than life songs that effortlessly thread a line between acerbic, punk infused rock and irresistible pop savvy, cranking each element of what made their debut a hit with fans and critics alike into overdrive.

Switching from uplifting pop rock on tracks such as first single ‘Beech Like The Tree’ (to be released February 14, 2011) and life-on-the-road anthem ‘(Motor)Way Of Life’ to the razor sharp punk attack of ‘Marilyn’s Mansion’ and ‘Bug’ to the soaring melancholy of ‘Uni 9mm’ and the sincerely affecting ‘Another Sad Song’ without once breaking stride or losing its way, ‘World Record’ is truly an album of light and shade, its heady dynamics and insightful lyricism offering an immersive and infectious journey.

Recorded at Outhouse Studios in Reading, UK (You Me At Six, Enter Shikari, Architects, The Blackout), ‘World Record’ will be released on April 4, 2011 on Wolf At Your Door Records, preceded by the singles ‘Beech Like The Tree’ – already named “Hottest Record In The World” on Zane Lowe’s influential Radio 1 show – on February 14 and ‘Deadliest Catch’ on March 28.

Japanese Voyeurs free download

Posted on 27 September 2010 by jon

Cover stars of this month’s Rock Sound magazine Japanese Voyeurs have just emerged from the studio after recording their debut album, due for release in early 2011. Ahead of their dates supporting Against Me and Fucked Up on their UK tour next month, they have unleashed a free download of one of the new recordings, album track ‘Smother Me’.

Singer Romily Alice explains “We wanted to give away ‘Smother Me’ as an introduction to the record because it’s both brutally heavy yet very tender – it’s one of the slower tracks of the record influenced by some of the doom bands that we’re very into like Witchsorrow, The Melvins, Sloth and Earth.

“It feels good to finally let people hear something from the album. We had such an incredible time recording with GGGarth (The Melvins, RATM, The Jesus Lizard)in Canada and mixing with Alex Newport (ATD-I, Pissed Jeans, Male Bonding)in Brooklyn; just being able to work with such incredibly talented people was such a gift, so to have everything done and be able to start to let people hear it is a great feeling.”

Japanese Voyeurs will be playing the following shows:

Sept 26th Gloucester, Underground Festival
Oct 22nd Southampton, Mo’ Live
Oct 24th Cardiff, Solus
Oct 25th Bristol, 02 Academy
Oct 26th Coventry, Kasbah
Oct 27th Glasgow, QMU
Oct 28th Nottingham, Rock City
Oct 29th Leeds, Met University

Julien Dupont in Belgrade

Hevy Festival Updates

Posted on 16 July 2010 by jon

Only three weeks to go and Hevy Festival have announced even more additions to their already impressive line up.

Glassjaw, Gallows, The Subways, Comeback Kid, The King Blues, Sepultura, Madina Lake, Dananananaykroyd, Fucked Up, Napalm Death, The Black Dahlia Murder, Rolo Tomassi, Despised Icon, Young Guns, Polar Bear Club and many more have previously been announced, but now confirmed is Motorbike freestyle trials pioneer Julien Dupont who will give a taster of his incredible skills across a specially constructed set-up, built especially for the Hevy Music Festival 2010 by sports titans Red Bull.

Maverick, genius or complete lunatic; the brilliantly eccentric Julien truly is a one-off who has done for motorbikes what Parkour has done for jogging. Julien applies the Parkour philosophy that any obstacle, physical or mental can be conquered by just him and his motorbike. His mantra is ʻfreeride everywhereʼ and it seems there this is nothing this man can’t take on. These days Dupont is now blazing a trail to ʻride the worldʼ as a pioneer of one of the most exciting and daring sports on the planet. Wall ride, slide, backflip…everything and anything is possible.

On top of this eight new bands have been announced for the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage, which is hosting some of the best up and coming bands. Additions are Sacred Betrayal, You and What Army, This Is Devine, Never Means Maybe, No Mean City, Stand Up Guy, Heights and Hearts Under Fire

Anathema Video Blog about new album

Posted on 04 June 2010 by jon

This is the sound of music with real meaning, from a band growing in popularity against all the odds. A band defying expectations and rewriting the rule books on what can and can’t be done in rock music. A band with such a natural sense of melody, balanced with seething power and lyrics that enlighten and inspire, a band of brothers and sisters, a band of unique origin. This is the best band you have never heard of. This album is beyond anything you ever heard before in its field. We are Anathema: we’re here because we’re here.

Anathema return on June 14th with their new album, We’re Here Because We’re Here. This is the first collection of new material from the band since the 2003 album, A Natural Disaster. A multi-coloured, multi-layered work of unbridled emotion, passion, and intensity, the new album has been eagerly anticipated by their legions of fans around the globe.

The album has been mixed by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), who has described it as “definitely among the best albums I’ve ever had the pleasure to work on.”

Anathema have been at the forefront of the UK rock/metal movement for many years. They began their journey as pioneers of melodic heavy music, influencing a myriad of bands to follow them, before outgrowing all genres and limitations as they fearlessly explored new territory and new ways to express feeling through sound.

Formed in Liverpool in 1990, the band’s sound and musical vision has continually evolved over the ensuing years while always remaining true to the band’s original goal of creating forward-thinking, meaningful, passionate, and honest music. With each release they moved beyond the boundaries of limited scenes and pigeon holes, creating a complex and emotive atmospheric sound.

Anathema consists of brothers Vincent, Daniel and Jamie Cavanagh, alongside childhood friends John Douglas and his sister Lee, who is an incredible singer in her own right. The line-up is completed by Les Smith, who brings much in the way of production expertise to the band.

There is a deeper bond in the group that transcends usual band politics, ego, and self-interest. They have a shared vision: to make the most incredible music they possibly can, and it seems, despite the lavish praise heaped on the band for their past work, they are about to take the whole thing to a new level.
