Since Eels first appeared in 1995 their live shows have been events. Every album and every tour had a different sound, and a different set up. Over the years they have performed as a three piece rock band, with brass and horns sections, with an orchestra, as a grunge band (with John Parish), and E solo.

To promote new album Wonderful Glorious, Eels are performing tonight as a five piece, with E on ‘the lead singer riser’ at the front, drummer also at the front, and then two guitarists (including 10 year Eels Veteran The Chet), and a bassist. The band clad from head to toe in Adidas gear.

Wonderful Glorious is a return to form after a couple of poorer Eels albums, in comparison with their earlier albums. The set heavily focuses of this new album, despite having released 10 albums as Eels, there’s only 4 songs from their first 5 albums, and even then two of the songs My Beloved Monster and Mr E’s Beautiful Blues are intertwined into one song, which works surprising well.

The set revolves around E’s ‘Yes Men’ shouting Yes to everything that E says in between songs. Turning the inbetween song banter into full on comedy set.

Despite missing out the big early hits, the set goes down well with the whole crowd. And as usual after their first encore, and the house lights come on, Eels wait for ten minutes before coming back out to play two more songs, to the crowd who had stayed behind (most of whom are used to Eels doing this).

This Wednesday (7th November) Billy Talent will play Norwich UEA as part of the Rocksound Riot Tour.

They’ve long been one of Rock Sound’s favourite bands and they are excited to reveal the 11-date tour, which calls at venues throughout the UK in support of Billy Talent’s new album ‘Dead Silence’ (released September 10 on Atlantic), will be the biggest tour in Rock Sound’s history. Good times!

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be a part of this tour,” says Billy Talent frontman Ben Kowalewicz. “It’s been way, way too long since we visited the UK for a full headline run, and to say that we’re stoked would be an understatement! We’re going to have some really awesome bands with us, and to be working alongside a magazine that we truly respect and admire makes this the perfect package.”

Says Rock Sound editor Ben Patashnik: “It’s awesome to be working with Billy Talent, a band all at Rock Sound has loved for years, and it’s genuinely thrilling to be taking this step up into massive venues. Can’t wait for November!”

Support comes from Awolnation and Don Broco.

Tickets are £17 in advance from UEA Ticket Bookings.

With almost 20 years under their belts as Bowling For Soup, and the last ten years of the band being fairly successful, since 2002′s massive hit ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’, BFS have been consistently touring the UK every October for the past 10 years to packed crowds.

Although Bowling For Soup don’t provide anything new or overly special, you are always guaranteed a fun and entertaining show, with crowd interaction. This year the band have proclaimed themselves as ‘the band you can wave to’ meaning every couple of songs they stop and let the crowd wave at them, simple but at the same time funny.

The performance lasts over 2 hours, fitting in as many as their songs as they can from over the past 18 years, with Emily, 1985 and Girl All The Bad Guys Want being the stand out songs.

Currently promoting their One Big Happy album, featuring supports The Dollyrots and Patent Pending, both supports join BFS on stage for fun and songs.

In a odd turn at the end singer Jaret decides to do a Q&A with the crowd, which causes the show to over run. Always wanting to please his fans, when the last question is ‘Will you perform the last song in the crowd?’ Jaret responses by taking himself and Kelly Ogden of The Dollyrots in to the middle of the packed mosh pit for them to sing a duet of The Bitch Song.
