Fightstar / In Case Of Fire – Norwich Waterfront
In Case Of Fire
With the release of In Case Of Fire’s debut album ‘Align The Planets’ only weeks away this was the performance the band have always threatened. Having spent the best part of the last 9 months playing 20 minutes/5 songs a night on ill fitting bills, now is their chance to shine. Tonight playing for 30 minutes their set sounds more together, and there’s a new found power, energy and aggression. Singer/Guitarist Steven and Bassist Mark throw themselves around the stage more than ever before, like Refused battling it out with At The Drive-In, as they blast through singles ‘This Time We Stand’ ‘The Cleansing’ and ‘Enemies’. I caught up with Steven after the set who said that all their touring has made them much more confident live, and it showed.
Fightstar
Fightstar have improved so much in the last four years as a live band. Now one of the tightest bands around. From the intro all the way through to set closer ‘Deathcar’ they have the crowd eating out of the palms of their hands. Playing a mixture of all three albums, they play fan favourites ‘Paint Your Target’ and ‘The English Way’ early in the set.
The bands live performance is improved by having Omar back on drums, after he had to sit out and watch their last headline tour with a broken wrist. An experience Omar described to me as ‘like watching someone else sleep with your girlfriend’.
The tightness of Fightstar is proved as they play along to strings on some of the tracks from the new album, including stand out song ‘War Machine’ with it’s chorus so catchy I still can’t get it out of my head several days later.
‘Be Human’ is a progession, and it excels live, expect Fightstar to be selling out bigger venues soon.
